 Abstract: With the deepening of the social development and the quality education, English Teaching is no longer the same as before when it’s“dumb English”only in order to deal with examination.It’s English teachers’responsibility engaged in the starting education in primary school,to cultivate and improve students’interest,so that they can speak in English bravely,love to speak in English and lay a good foundation.

I fully appreciate through the condensed questionnaire:A primary English teachers not only can speak English fluently,but also can sing,dance,paint and performance well.Only by this way we can make full use of these teaching methods easily and properly such as: singing, dancing, painting, competitions, games, scenarios and  storytelling.Teaching points and students’interest can be combined truly.Then students are excited because the teaching content is interesting.combining teaching.At the same time,apart from the excellent professional knowledge,teachers should establish the harmonious,cooperative and interactive relationship with students. Teaching is not only the relationship between teaching and learning,but also a process of communicating ideas and feelings between the teachers and students.The relationship between teacher and student have an effect on the feelings and will of the students directly,and their cognitive activities.Therefore,teachers should pay more attention to inputs of the feelings,arousing students’emotional resonance by sincere love.Teachers should convey their cordial,encouragement,confidence and respect to students through their own words and expressions in order that students are not afraid of making mistakes and dare to speak English.It plays an important role for cultivating and improving students’interest to emphasize on affective communication, manage to enable students to maintain a good state of mind and to protect students’self-confidence.

In addition,effective teaching evaluation also takes effect on cultivating and improving students’interest.On the one hand,teachers make students experience progress and success continuously in English learning process,know themselves and establish self-confidence so as to promote the all-round development of integrated language ability of students.On the other hand,from the feedback on the English teaching,teachers can have a reflection on teaching process and adjust appropriately, in order to improve the level of teaching constantly.Only in this way,can our English Language Teaching be more scientific, more in line with the linguistics and the law of the psychological development of children.Meanwhile, the overall quality of students is improved.they can maximize the development of their personality.As a result,teachers can cultivate more new century talents.

如何提高小学生学习英语的兴趣

 

摘要: 随着社会的发展和素质教育的深入,今天的英语教学已经不再像往日一样,只是为了应付一张试卷的“哑巴英语”。培养和提高小学生学习的兴趣,让他们敢说英语、爱说英语,打下良好的基础,这才是从事起点教育的小学英语教师的责任所在。所以,教师必须一开始就抓住学生的好奇,引导学生保持良好的心态,让孩子的英语学习兴趣不减,进而爱上英语,学好英语,值得每一位小学英语教师深思和探究。

通过这次对小学生的问卷调查使我深深明白:作为小学英语教师不仅要能说流利的英语,还要会唱歌、跳舞、绘画、善于表演,只有这样我们才能自如、恰当地运用例如讲故事、唱歌、跳舞、画画、比赛、游戏、情景表演等多种多样,生动有趣的教学手段,创设多种能激发学生学习兴趣的教学情景,才能真正做到把教学内容与学生的兴趣点结合起来,学生才能因为教学内容的吸引而兴奋起来。同时,教师除了过硬的专业知识外,还应与学生之间建立起和谐融洽、合作互动的关系。教学不仅是教与学的关系,同时也是师生双方思想和感情的交流过程。师生关系直接影响着学生的情感和意志,影响学生的认知活动。因此,教师要重视感情的投入,多与学生进行情感方面的交流,做学生的知心朋友,成为学生最值得信任的人,形成学生在老师面前无话不说、无事不谈的融洽师生关系,对学生多关心,多照顾,与学生取得心灵沟通,共同分享成功的快乐,共同克服挫折和烦恼,以自己真诚的爱唤起学生的情感共鸣。通过自己的言行、表情传递给学生亲切、鼓励、信任、尊重的情感信息使得学生不怕出错,敢于开口说英语。重视学生情感因素对学生的影响,想方设法让学生保持良好的心境,保护学生的自信心,这对培养和提高学生的学习兴趣有很大的作用。

此外,有效的教学评价也对培养和提高小学生学习的兴趣起着重要的作用。一方面使学生在英语的学习过程中不断体验进步和成功,尊重他们的人格,多肯定做得好的地方,发现他们的闪光点,认识自我,建立自信,促进学生综合语言运用能力的全面发展;充分关注学生的个性差异,发挥评价的激励作用,让学生发挥所长,树立对自己的正确评价,做学习的主人;另一方面使教师获取英语教学的反馈信息,对自己的教学行为进行反思和适当的调整,促进教师不断提高教育教学水平。促进师生之间的互动,提高学生的兴趣,引发学生对英语学习的激情,使学生慢慢地从老师要我学英语,转变为我自己想用英语与大家交流;每一个人都对学习的应用性感兴趣,当一个学生看到英语的实际用处,并且能够运用的时候,肯定会对进一步学习英语兴趣倍增,学习的效果也会极大地得到提高。只有这样,我们的英语教学才能更具科学性,才能更加符合语言学和儿童心理发展的规律,在全面提高学生素质的同时,让他们的个性得到最大限度的发展,培养出更多的符合新世纪需要的人才。

1.     Introduction

 

The interest is a tendency to recognize that people recognize and seek to engage in certain activities,its performance for the individual to some thing or to engage in certain activities of the selective attitude and positive emotional reaction. (Yanghong,Wu Tianwu and Wang Chengxiang,2006)Einstein said: "Education for what students should be valuable as a gift to accept,rather than as a daunting task to bear."We can clearly see that interest is the best teacher.More interested in teaching are a useful attempt in primary English teaching.English teaching in primary schools, enhancing the interest of pupils in English which is equivalent to provide students with a handful of the golden key to open the English study,this tendency more strongly interested in,the students eager to study the English language is also more strongly.Therefore,a successful English teachers must have awareness in teaching students to enhance interest in learning English,encouraging students to study in a better state,so that the role of interest in teaching to exert full.So that they love study and good study to learning the English language.Psychologist's findings show that negative emotions can inhibit the intellectual activity,and active interest in it will be able to strengthen.People interested in their own often pay more attention,and has a profound impression after one focus attention.People studying for their attractive and those who are interested in things,make sure that you remember to increase the effectiveness of its almost two and a half times.For primary,interest is the most active components in the non-intellectual factors,the starting point for studying consciousness and also interested in exploring the great power of knowledge. Interested study can not only make the students concentrate on studying,and actively considering or even never reach the point where they no longer feel that learning is a heavy burden.(Garger,S and Guild,P.1984)At the same time,interest in teaching fit the primary psychological and personality characteristics.And the biggest difference between the primary English teaching and secondary English is that its educational objects and purpose of their teaching.Since the object of English teaching in primary schools are primary,and their interest in the English language almost decide whether or not their English language learning can be successful.With interest as long as they manage to find ways to go to master,to know;the contrary,loss of interest in English class for them is a waste of time.Primary interest is the key to the primary English, the successful completion of primary students are the key to English,but also access to middle school pupils,high school and university as well as where the power of lifelong learning,then teaching English in primary schools to foster interest in students is the most important.

Interest in teaching is an inherent requirement of quality education.New"National English curriculum standards"that:"the stage of basic education mission of the English curriculum are: to stimulate and cultivate student interest in learning English,to enable students to establish self-confidence,develop good study habits and form an effective learning strategy,develop the ability of self-learning and the spirit of cooperation;So that students must master the basic knowledge and the English listening,speaking,reading and writing skills,a certain ability to use the language of the general;cultivate students’observation, memory, thinking, imagination and innovation spirit; To help students understand the world and the difference between Chinese and Western cultures, expanding horizons,cultivate the spirit of patriotism,a healthy outlook on life,for their lifelong learning and developing lay a solid foundation."(Skehan,P.1998)In primary English language teaching,improve students interest in learning English and cultivate student study the initiative and enthusiasm play an important role in the effect of teaching.Therefore,interest in teaching plays a vital role in parimary English teaching.

2.     A survey and analysis of study interest

 

The investigation report of effecting primary students interest in learning English:

(1) The objectives of the survey

Ushinski Russian educator once said:"Mandatory study without interest will stifle the will of students to acquire knowledge."Clearly,Interest is the premise of studying knowledge and cultivating ability.In basic education,one of the English curriculum mission are:to stimulate and cultivate student become interested in learning English. Therefore to cultivate primary students’interest in studying English,and guide the students to actively explore for knowledge,promote students to initiative development,and to develop the habit of lifelong learning are subjects which our educators are to be in urgent need of study.

Lihan Primary School is located in rural that where economic backwardness, some people have some old ideas and reading is useless the wrong cognition in a lot of parents’opinion which exist in very deep so that causes students to learn without aim, full of inert,Low interest in learning.The fundamental reason is that students are not interested in studying.Especially English,Primary English is a new curriculum which the majority of students are very difficult to keep up with it.So I have proposed a study of interest in learning Primary English.For the reality of this school students,I gradually find out the current situation and causes for students’interest in learning English around some villages,to propose a solution with targeted and explore effective ways to improve students’interest in studying English,and continue to form an hobbies;Let the students love to learn English,have a continuing interest and love for learning English so as to school and beyond lay a good foundation for studying English.

This subject applies the education object conducted a question-naire survey by analysis of data and facts to the status of  students’ interest in studying to grasp the factors of the effecting students’interest in learning.

(2) The survey methodology

First,Time: January 8, 2009

Second,Target: Lihan Primary Schools;the part of the third,forth,fifth grade students,a total of 30 students

Third,Content: investigate the contents of sub-14;it divided into the following aspects: A,the existing disciplines interested in how,and the reasons of producing interest. B,to the English teaching activities carry out  the investigation;to find out the  students’interest in where.C,the expectations of teachers.

Forth,Methods: a questionnaire survey method:puting out the anonymous questionnaire under the supervision of the class teacher.A total of 30 questionnaires issued,fully recovered,30 valid questionnaires,100 percent recovery rate.

(3) The analysis of the results

Based on the investigation,discovery and concludes that some of the features of the current students become interested in learning English:

First,students have strong scene to follow their teacher:From the survey is not difficult to find a teacher likes students will enjoy the courses that teachers, teacher-student relationship is so very important.So teachers must be a good mentor and friend of the students that students produce and maintain a lasting interest for the subfects.In addition teachers should pay attention to their own appearance,and always maintain a good mental state,bring students to the united state.

Second,students enjoy the encouraging assessment:In the sixth investigate,I found that all students enjoy the encouragement of teachers,so teachers should be more widely used encouraging reviews in teaching.

Third,the students enjoy the active classroom activity:From1,12survey,it is not difficult to find that students enjoy the activity of teaching and learning activities.To use many of the active teaching activity in English teaching.

Forth,students enjoy the group activities:At the tenth survey,I found that students like four combinations,so we should use this form in the future.

3.     How to improve junior students’interest in learning English

 

English is a language discipline.How to arouse students’ interest in learning and improve that are English teachers should be very concerned problem in the teaching process.For junior students,despite the cognition of helping students to gradually clear the purpose of learning English and improve the meaning of learning English are extremely important aspect,but more importantly,depends on the teacher’s classroom teaching art,that is,how to combine the characteristics of primary English discipline,according to the child’s age characteristics and adopting effective teaching methods to enhance students’interest in learning English.In primary English teaching, the teachers should be some effort in the"interest"issues.The following combine this survey to provide teachers with a number of possible ways:

3.1 Application of Emotional Teaching Strategies

Teaching is not only the relationship between teaching and learning,but also the communication process of thoughts and feelings of teachers and students.(Hu Chundong,1990) Only transforming the emotion and curtailing the distance between teachers and students can transform the learning attitude of the students to make students like teachers to prefer English.This is to cultivate and enhance students’ interest in learning have a significant role.

3.1.1 New teacher-student relationship to communicate emotion

Education is a full of emotion and love career.Teachers should be more exchange emtional with students,make students’good friends and become the most trusted person to students.In teaching, new teaching concept is that will not learn,teach you to learn,do not want to study,attract you to learn in new methods;so that students enjoy learning,to achieve the goal of teaching.(Wang Hongmei,2007)The purpose of education is to develop human potential and promote the total development of people. Therefore,we must set up a new teacher-student relationship:

(1) Cooperative teacher-student relationship

Cooperation does not require teachers to education itself,not to the mandatory means(rebuke,humiliation,complain to the parents,etc)to force the students to obey the will of teachers.Compulsory education,it is easy to hurt the child's self-confidence,self-esteem,arouse the resentment and even fear of the children,but also easy to stifle children’s interest in studying.(Petty,G.2001)Cooperation means that teachers and students on the personality is completely equal.Teachers should always have such a concept: “You will not learn,I teach you to study;you do not want to study,I attract you to study,”All in all children is to enjoy learning,so that they are willing to work with the teachers and children take part in joint educational activities.

(2) Harmonious teacher-student relationship

Harmony refers to emotional contact between teachers and students,love is one of the core elements.Love needs teachers to devote considerable enthusiasm for students,attention to their various aspects;Love will the relationship of“I” and “you” turn into a“we”relationship.So that love let the teacher-student to achieve spiritual communication in interdependence,to share the joy of success and share the frustrations of troubles.In teaching,teaching and learning are a pair of contradictions, as the representatives between the contradictions,teachers and students how to harmonious relations between teachers and students is essential for achieving the teaching purposes.(Zhang Qingzong,2004)Therefore,teachers want students in depth,with students mingle and knowing the students’interest,hobbies,emotions emotional changes,always concerned about students,love students and respect students,targeted to assist students.Let you in the eyes of students is not only a respectable teacher,it is nice that they can be near a close friend.Only in this way the teacher-student can cotton the relationship between teachers and students to conduct study immense.

Therefore,in teaching teachers cultivate our students to be a sense of closeness with teachers,students and teachers to create a psychological compatible good environment,and the make good friends with the students to build the good relations of mutual trust,respect,help,unity,fraternity and common progress.Students will be from love teachers to love English,so that students learn from the likes to willing to consciously learn to learn from "hard study" into the "love study".In this teacher-student relationship,students’interest in studying improved,we can receive unexpected results.

3.1.2 Subtle body teaching reflects emotional education

"Body teaching is more important than language," This is that educators summed up an irrefutable truth in practice.Bingxin said:"children's love education should not be abstract.Children who love the motherland and the people always feel from own side that love such as their teachers and schools,such as love their parents and brothers ..." It is often said that students are the shadow of the teachers,what kind of teachers, what kind of students there.For students,Words and actions of teachers who have a strong infectious.Just imagine,An absent-minded teachers throughout the day,put their job as hard work to deal with,students can not be mingled with his physical and mental,it is impossible to pro-active attitude to put into learning. Therefore,teachers should demonstrate in front of students with a healthy, warm,cheerful image,from the heart to consciously follow professional ethics,be patient and meticulous to answer to every difficult question,to unknowingly infected every student,and encourage every student.(Brown,H.D.1994)Only in this way, teaching effectiveness would be improved.

3.1.3 Selfless love expresses Emotional Education

"Love" is a timeless human needs,navigation lights in the process of human civilization,human beings are to be passed the torch of civilization from generation to generation."Love education" passing the torch of civilization is that the process is extremely important;teachers will be the messenger of the passing torch from generation to generation,elementary school teacher who is even more lit the torch and the pioneer of education."No love without education",I very much agree with this opinion.Emotional Education must be based on "love" as the core.Teacher has love,and students can be more beloved teacher.Deepening the feelings of teachers and students in order to give full play to the function of emotional education. Teachers care about students with full of love mind and sincere attitude,students will be influenced by your love and genuineness,so not only can guide and inspire students to overcome difficulties and vigorous,but also would have a positive impact for the students’intellectual,moral and character development.

Concerned about the students,care to students and to help students are the bounden duty of the teachers,people may be relatively easy to achieve.Alone is not enough to love in "love" at the same time also need to understand and respect. Students want to pursue the personality development and a kind of equality between people exchanges. Therefore,I think that if the teacher open up the shelf,went into their study and life, respect for their suggestions and opinions and understand their thoughts.In this way, we can close the distance between teachers and students,so that student understand that teachers are to their healthy growth.Respecting the demeanor of the students to allow students to appreciate the teachers for their concern and care.At the same time, we give students the freedom to leave the space and time,access to the initiative of the development and students develop their own personality,so that they use their hands to describe their future.This is the understanding and respect,and that is the true teachers’love.

In short,the emotional education should not be ignored by every teachers.If the right to grasp the emotional education can help shape the students’good behavior,but also enhance the students’interest in studying in order to improve the quality of teaching.Pay attention to the emotional factors in teaching,to promote its positive effects,students will be able to take the initiative to learn,learn independently, English learning will be able to scale new heights.

3.2 The use of several teaching methods

Primary curiosity,thirst for knowledge,and of particular interest to new things.To enable them to learn English,it is necessary to use a variety of teaching methods to attract their attention,enhance their interest in learning.Here are several commonly used teaching methods:

3.2.1 Intuitive and imaginal teaching aid

For the characteristic of the primary imaginal thinking is superior to the logic thinking,we have to use intuitive and imginal means in teaching to enhance the fun of teaching will help students more direct and more thorough understanding materials. (Zheng zanmei,2008)Psychological Knowledge tells us that student will feel familiar and close,not feel monotonous and boring of learning obfects,and thus triggered off interest when faced with true,close to the person or object.In the teaching process,teachers use common everyday objects as much as possible in daily life to enable students to learn their English names,describe their shape,color,nature, use,and enhance the contact of the first signal and the second signal system contact system so that students quickly learn to new words and sentence patterns,English language knowledge and language skills,and be able to firmly consolidate.(Jiang  hongshan,2004)In teaching such as apple\orange\pear and other words,you can put on these fruits to the classroom and display in the classroom through these objects, the attention of students will be completely attracted to these fruits,but also give students the opportunity to display their brought fruit,so that they take this opportunity to express their hobbies,then it animate students’thinking for a moment, and to actively take part in the language practice activities.Except of course with the objects,we can want our picture to achieve the wanted effect,such as in teaching “food”,teachers can print a series of color pictures,they immediately attract students’attention,while the layout of homework,students so that they go home to draw up favorite foods.Through online realistic picture of the food display in the classroom,when the attention of the entire class will be attracted these foods fully to allow students to speak their minds,a lesson spend in the “sweet-smelling”picture. Body language is a means of the sending emotion and expressing wish through gestures,facial expressions,eye movements,posture,appearance and other non-verbal behavior.In English teaching,teachers can be change sound language into visualization and vividness through facial expressions,eye movements,posture and many other silent body language.Particularly in primary English language teaching, teachers should focus on the primary age and psychological characteristics to take the imaginal,lively,exciting,fun way to fully mobilize the various senses and the use of body language for teaching and learning.

(1) In the letters teaching,applying body language to optimize the teaching. 3.2.3 Meticulously created scenarios teaching

One of the most adverse conditions in studying English is lack of English communication scenarios for our Chinese students.Therefore,we should make full use of various means in limited time to creat the English learning scenarios as much as possible in classroom teaching.

(1) The creation of the game situation

Through game and song teaching activities,students’studying initiative will greatly improve.We can only continue to stimulate students interest in learning,and guide them to take part in a number of positive and effective,allow the students to feel refreshing and fun,broke through the heavy lesson difficult to obtain a very good teaching results.

3.3 Effective teaching evaluation

Evaluation is for teachers and for learners,for them to not only know well they have done but also where they have done well and where they need more efforts.(Wangqiang,2006)The new curriculum emphasizes that to promote all-round development of students and continuously improve teaching and course development evaluation system.The purpose of the evaluation is to stimulate students interest and enthusiasm.Now that we has a variety of classroom activities,then we would have to have a reasonable evaluation,timely recognize and encourage students.

3.3.1 Enhancing interest in learning in the evaluation of loving

Right to treat student’s mistakes with love.For the language error of students, teachers should take the attitude of tolerance.In the process of learning English,there are kinds of questions are inevitable.As a teacher should not because they are not allowed to pronunce a word to criticize them severely,it would burden them so that they have a feeling of fearing difficulty, increased anxiety.Opposite to allow them to make mistakes,and use appropriate meansto guide.As a teacher,the students answered questions on the right or wrong,always keep smiling faces are a kind of praise and encourage on students.Therefore,when you put a smile into the classroom, with the smiling face of love for each student,you will find the hearts of the students are becoming more and more near you,they will also have a sense of optimism, confidence,positive attitude for studying the English language.

3.3.2 Keeping interest in learning in the incentive evaluation 

According to the research of psychologists and linguists,when people learn their mother tongue and foreign language,they will give some of their knowledge based on past created by the incorrect or non-existent sentence.But this is bound to go through a phase in the process of learning a language.After a certain error period,the error in these languages can be corrected.For such situations,a variety of incentives to encourage and assist students to experience success in classroom teaching so that students are willing to learn English,like English.Concerned about the personality differences between students and playing the incentive function of evaluation to protect self-esteem and self-confidence of students.(Gao Linhua,2006)The teacher told the students clearly that error is inevitable;and grasp the opportunity to adopt a flexible variety of error correction methods;help students to correct and overcome the errors,improve the level of spoken language.Teachers do not blindly correct language errors of students,and thus dealing a blow to the enthusiasm of students studying English.It really made a biggest mistake.

3.3.3 The immediacy of evaluation can enhance interest in learning

A look of encouragement,a gentle word and a sincere round of applause to the students are self-confidence and courage.The encouraging evaluation is especially important for the students.In the classroom,the students answered correctly,we should applaud the side of the side said “Good, Good,Very very good!Good job! Wonderful!”.To answer students not fluent,it is necessary to be patient and evaluation of care given to “Think it over.Try it again.Don 't worry”.In order to increase their self-confidence.For students who really can not tell,saying“Let's help him.Let 's do together”This will not only break the embarrassing situation,but also promote the spirit of mutual help and care between the student.Exception,we should also be prepare some self-made prizes: “ small red”, “five-pointed star”, “stickers” and so on,to fulfil the primary sense of accomplishment.

4. Conclusion

 

Learn English,interests first.Therefore,the primary school English education is also the key question of how to let the children find interest in learning.Tolstoy said: “The success of the teaching is not required by mandatory,but rather to stimulate interest in students.”Interest are the most realistic and the most active and strong psychological factors in children's learning motivation.Teachers should be through a variety of channels,to carry out a full range of excitation,so that students learn knowledge,and active thinking in a pleasant.Of course,the primary English classroom teaching is still in the exploration and improve,and to get every child to have a good interest and positive attitude for English,and cultivate their learning and comprehensive use of language ability, but also required each teacher to explore,go practice.
